consciousness

For those of us who live with a progressive disorder is essential to be conscious of the condition’s progression, symptoms, and how we can help ourselves to tweak our system.

A couple of years ago, a friend texted me a photo of a dinner party we attended the night before.

What I found in the picture was scary and eye-opening.

“Who was that expressionless face person?” I asked my self. I had to look twice to realize that it was me; then I understood something was going on with my health.

After this experience, I was conscious of this early Parkinson’s Disease Symptom, and I made sure to avoid that masked face expression by being aware of its presence.

“Friends or people, in general, don’t tell you these things, so you have to find them on your own”

After this, I decided to pay more attention to physical and emotional changes.

Several months ago, after my Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis I noticed something off with my running and walking.

So, I self scanned my running form and noticed that my right leg was lagging behind and not raising it high enough. Hard to tell, but it was there.

I corrected the issue by putting extra effort into mimicking the left non-affected leg.

I’m also aware of my diet, what foods help to manage my tremors, and what factors make the difference between having a good day and a bad day.

It is all about discovering yourself as a new person living with any disease but also consciously understanding the cause and effect of what is producing the current state.

Be aware of your own self and question everything. Don’t give up!
